Choosing Free Anti Virus

Posted by the tech on Aug 4, 2010 in Security |

There is plenty of Free Anti Virus to choose from but which one do you choose? The good news is that most of the free versions can in fact keep you very safe and if you follow this article you should stay clean usually for free.

There is no doubt that the paid for versions have extra protection but if your machine is clean when installing a Free Version, this should do you quite sufficiently.

At the time of writing this article the top paid for versions are BitDefender and Kaspersky and have in fact held top spot for the past couple of years.

The old favourites of Nor-ton and Mc-afee who had the high-ground for so long, done themselves no favours by totally taking over the operating system they were protecting and slowing them down. This is still mainly the case but they are starting to catch up again.

Then you have the Three A’s Avira, Avast and Avg which in fact have all free versions of their package. Avg had been the best of these Free Anti Virus but Avira is really catching up and in fact caught most of FaceBook attacks when all the rest missed them. Avira is becoming a favourite in the Eastern block countries and the East in general and that’s a lot of people giving it the thumbs up.

Bitdefender infact has a free Anti Virus version but can be hidden on their site making it difficult to map to the actual download. So watch out for the Free Anti Virus Links

So how do you choose one?: Well if you want to stay free why not install all three of the Three A’s. Install one give your system a full scan uninstall it and then move on to the next one. When finished with all three of the free Anti Virus Versions your machine will have a good clean out and then just choose one to keep on your system.

If you prefer to use some of the other vendors like BitDefender or Kaspersky or some other top brand they all have free trial versions (usually 30 days) this is plenty of time for you to get to know and make a choice. The problem here is though that even these versions can get an infection and after paying for this you may need to get your local Computer Repairs to get rid of the problem.

Now something that most people miss is that anti virus and anti spyware are in fact different technologies but are fast becoming integrated. If you really want to give your system a good scan or clean you will have to use some anti spyware because all the main anti viruses can miss malicious code that does get picked up by anti spyware. Yes there is plenty of free anti spyware software out there like, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Adaware to mention just a few. So watch out for the Free Anti Spyware Links

Making a choice: This article will advise you to keep it free. Use the paid for versions as trials to clean out your pc, use different multiple versions remembering to uninstall the last one before installing the next one. Then uninstall all paid for versions and start to choose from the free versions of anti virus and anti spyware. See the free links below.
