In principle, tools are simple computer programs, such as every other program. However the term “tool” or “utility” is usually assigned to particularly useful programs.

In addition, most of these free programs are so-called Shareware, which one can test only during a short period. After that period, one is almost forced to purchase the product if one wishes to continue using it.
