Search Engine Optmisation (SEO) is hugely popular and getting more and more vital all the time, but despite this, there’s actually an amazing amount of misinformation and bad practice going on that’s quite visible to anyone who spends any amount of time researching the industry. I’ve been looking into it for my own business, but I’ve had experience with SEO before so I already know what I’m looking for. I’m trying to catch up with the new changes, but even I can recognise that there are plenty of people out there in the SEO world that are trying to make quick money.

If you’re about to start looking for an SEO agency, do yourself a favour and do a bit of reading about how modern SEO works. One of the biggest changes has come from the shift from coding to content. What used to be about making sure search engines could read your code properly is now all about making sure that your website is actually engaging people. Google might not know the difference between a well written piece of content and barely readable blocks of text, but visitors do, and that’s how Google performs much of its rankings these days.

Keep an eye on agencies that either ignore the importance of content or are promoting techniques designed to trick search engines into believing content exists where it really does not. Things to look out for are keyword stuffing and article generation, which will always produce shoddy work that doesn’t read well and that nobody will care about – certainly not the search engines and definitely not your customers. Instead, take a look at agencies with a proven track record in creating content, employing good writers and avoiding cheap tactics that no longer work.

I’m not saying that adding tags and making sure your site is technically capable isn’t still important, but that sort of SEO doesn’t take long, and won’t reap the same benefits today as it did five years ago. After all, there are plenty of talented web developers out there – far more than there used to be – and plenty more companies, as well. If you want to do well in SEO you have to be moving ahead the competition, and it takes more than just a few Meta tags, these days.

Computer viruses show how vulnerable computer systems are. Viruses can be painful for the economy because there were cases when viruses were responsible for destroying millions of dollars in just a few seconds. Viruses can damage your computer as well, they can lower your system’s speed down, erase valuable information and you can even loose all your private data.

A virus is a small software that attaches itself to one of your programs and when you use that program the virus itself is turned on. After that the virus starts to reproduce and attaches to other programs, infecting them too. Then the computer is in danger and it spreads so fast that people can’t even get a chance to react sometimes.

There are E-Mail Viruses as well. E-Mail viruses are usually messages with a virus in an attachment, they replicate and send themselves to all your contacts if you open them. They can infect your computer when the attachment is opened and sometimes they can even infect your computer when you just open that E-Mail without even downloading the attachment.

Trojan Horses are not rare at all in the virus world. They are not software that spreads around leaching on programs, they are independent. They can be in the form of a downloadable game, some small computer software or even a screensaver, but are known for erasing complete content of your hard drives.

Worms are yet another kind of viruses. Worms use security holes and computer networks to replicate, and spread around. After transferring to other machines a worm spreads around further by searching holes and copying itself.

You can protect yourself from viruses by using Anti-Virus programs. Anti-Virus programs use firewalls to protect your computer from harming software. They can also scan your drives for viruses. When they find a virus on your system you get to chose to delete that file or move it to their chest. The chests are places provided through these Anti-Virus programs where you can safe keep infected files so they can’t spread around. Viruses mostly attack system files and that could be a problem, because if you try to delete that file, sometimes you won’t be able to do so and you could even mess up the system.

Viruses can be spread trough multimedia system too, like cd’s, dvd’s, usb drives, etc. You should scan those with an Anti-Virus application first before you make use of them. One other thing, do not open E-Mails from unknown senders, with executables in it, for example: jpg, com, exe, vbs, etc.

You should pay attention to which internet pages you visit because there are many unsafe internet pages that can harm you personal computer. Some protection programs warn you before visiting unsafe internet pages. If they do so, it is better not to visit these pages. So, beware of the viruses, they are called that way because they have a lot of similarities to real viruses and they spread as fast as those.

There are some safer systems that can be used if you are constantly attacked by harmful software, or you just want to be safe. UNIX is one system that can be used as a safe operating system and it offers great protection. Remember to update databases of your Anti-Virus services frequently.

Today I helped my sister check her slow and unstable computer. After starting the system, I found that the reason why her computer is so slow is that there are two antivirus programs running in her computer. One is the free Anti-Virus&Trojan and the other is Norton Antivirus that has expired. Since she is not going to buy Anti-Virus&Trojan, so I decided to help her uninstall Anti-Virus&Trojan to boost her PC and avoid conflicts with Norton.

Firstly, I use the standard way to uninstall Anti-Virus&Trojan thru add/remove program list:

Step 1 Click the “Start” menu on the left bottom of your screen.

Step 2 Select “Control Panel”

Step 3 Locate and choose “Add/Remove Programs”

Step 4 In the “Add/Remove Programs” list, you’ll see a whole list of programs and applications that are installed on your computer. Find and highlight Anti-Virus&Trojan and click “Uninstall”

Step 5 Click “Remove” to uninstall Anti-Virus&Trojan.

This is very simple, but sometimes it may fail. The reasons for this may be a simple failure, or that there are still some related files, service, processes and registry entries left on your computer. So it does not a clean Anti-Virus&Trojan removal.

Then you can try to use a good uninstaller to automatically uninstall Anti-Virus&Trojan in seconds. Such a removal tool can remove programs including those can not be removed completely thru “Windows Add/Remove Programs”, delete the empty and corrupt registry entries as well as the related files, backup your registry and improve your overall PC performance.

There is actually a fantastic removal tool that can help you fully uninstall Anti-Virus&Trojan with great success and make sure all the now-defunct Registry entries and related files are eliminated automatically with a few clicks. Aside from this software, it can also completely remove other programs like Authentium, Norton, Trend Micro antivirus, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, and similar programs.

              <!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } A:link { so-language: zxx } –>

Are you unable to boot your Windows 7 or Windows Vista operating system-based computer, after making it dual-boot with an earlier version of Windows operating system? Do you encounter error when your system tries to read disk? This behavior of Windows may occur due to various compatibility issues and make your system unusable. At this point, you can not access your hard drive partitions and encounter partition loss situations. In order to recover lost partitions in such circumstances, Windows Data Recovery is required.

As a practical example, you may come below issues after installing an earlier version of MS Windows on a Windows Vista or Windows 7-based machine in dual-boot configuration:

Windows Vista does not boot after making your system dual-boot. Only earlier version of Windows boots up.

When you install an extra instance of Windows XP on a system, which has Windows Vista and Windows XP in dual-boot configuration, the below error message occurs.
“Disk read error has occurred.”

This behavior make your system inaccessible. To recover lost partitions in such cases, it becomes essential to find the cause of this problem and perform Windows Data Recovery by sorting it out.

Reason

This behavior of Windows operating system occurs as earlier versions of MS Windows are not compatible with Windows Vista boot method. Vista employs a new BCD (Boot Configuration Database) store. The BCD includes a boot menu and the information about the operating system, which are installed on your computer. Thus, the Boot.ini file which is from earlier version of Windows can not be used for booting up Windows Vista.

Resolution

You can try out the following things to work around this problem:

Use the Bootsect.exe for restoring Windows Vista Master Boot Record (MBR) and boot code, which transfers control to Windows Boot Manager (WBM) program.

Use Bcdedit.exe for creating a manual entry in BCD Boot.ini file in earlier version of Windows.

Reboot your system.

If the above method does not work, you need to format your hard drive and reinstall Windows Vista. In this case, you will lose all your hard drive partitions and need to Recover Partitions.

The make it quite easy to retrieve lost hard drive partitions. The software are able to handle all types of partition loss situations, using advanced scanning methods.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is the best made software that provides assured recovery of lost Windows partitions. It recovers FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS, and NTFS5 file system partitions. The software is designed for Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000.

The Linux Foundation announced April 8 its annual sponsorship of independent IDC predictions about how the Linux ecosystem will grow over time. The answer is “a lot” but exactly what you’d expect in relationship to the UNIX ecosystem.

I usually measure Linux/UNIX usage growth/decline by following the IDC quarterly view of server shipments. The clear trend from that perspective is that factory shipments of servers with Linux is increasing basically at the rate that factory shipments of servers with UNIX decreases. It gets the rabid open source blogosphere foaming at the mouth to say this but Linux is basically the latest version of UNIX. So market researchers expect the two operating systems to move in this manner.

From a market research perspective, looking at the Linux ecosystem separate from the UNIX ecosystem would be like looking at the growth of Windows 15 years ago without also watching the decline of DOS. Bascially, you choose the IBM and HP versions of Linux et al for factory shipments if you used to choose AIX, HP/UX and so forth. In addition, leading server suppliers are partnering with Linux services suppliers such as Red Hat, Canonical and so forth for follow-ons. This is relatively low-margin services business the major systems suppliers used to take for themselves.

The IDC report released April 8 looks at the same trend from a different perspective. By the way and not coincidentally, the Linux Foundation is funded by platinum sponsors Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM, Intel, NEC, Novell and Oracle along with dozens of other Gold, Silver and Affiliate sponsors. Rather than measuring your choice of servers, the new IDC research predicts your “Linux-related software spending.” The forecast says Linux-related software revenue will grow from $12 billion to $35 billion between 2008 and 2013 while “Unix spending” goes almost almost flat (from $69 billion to $74 billion). This statistic forecasts not only the Linux- and other open source operating software (e.g., Solaris) revenue flowing in the market but the revenue of license fees, maintenance and related subscriptions for application servers, ESBs, databases, ERP, BI and even consumer software running on those operating systems. Note that much of this software is not tied to open source terms and conditions (Ts&Cs). As an example, an Oracle database and SAP R/3 running on a Linux server would be considered Linux-related software spending in this case.

The IDC report also has some interesting information about cloud computing, virtualization and the effects on the market of the current economic downturn. It is available free from the Linux Foundation Web site. I wrote about a companion piece of IDC research sponsored by Novell here.

By comparison, “Windows-related” revenue, according to the same IDC white paper, will grow from $149 billion to $206 billion during the same period. That is, both ecosystems are growing at about the same compound annual growth rate of 6 percent to 7 percent. That’s also as one would expect because both ecosystems are rapidly becoming the two dominant choices you have in the marketplace. As has been the trend for a few years, Linux- and other open source-based software is replacing UNIX-system-based software while Windows-based software is displacing OS/400 and other similar less IT-personnel-intensive systems.

As always, be careful of statistics. These statistics do not tell the whole story of the marketplace and your choices in it. For example, just as a lot of the software in the open source operating system ecosystem is deployed with traditional Ts&Cs (the Oracle/SAP example above), a lot of the software revenue measured in the Windows ecosystem is distributed with open source Ts&Cs. Examples are JBoss or MySQL running on Windows

Blog publishing tools can be further categorized into three sub-categories: Online blogging services, do-it-yourself blog publishing platforms, and accessory blog-publishing tools. Blogging services provide the blog engine that you need to get yourself started in blogging as well as the hosting. Though most of the services offer this for free, some of them require that you become paying members in order to fully enjoy all the benefits.

Blogger – Google’s Blogger is one of the earliest blogging services and it helped popularize blogging. It is one of the easiest ways to get started blogging because of the focus on usability and easy blog creation. The Blog this feature, which is integrated in many Google tools, makes posting to Blogger possible in many different situations. It is also integrated with Google’s Adsense advertising program that makes monetization of your blog quick and easy.

TypePad – Typepad is the largest paid-blogging service around. As mentioned, a paid subscription is required to create a blog using the service. It uses the Movable Type blogging technology but it caters more to the non-technical users.

Wordpress.com – one of the newcomers in the online blogging services, Wordpress gets its credibility from the success and popularity of the blogging engine that it uses -Wordpress.

Xanga – Xanga is one of the largest blog-networks, boasting a user base of 27 million users worldwide. It edges over its competitors by offering excellent community features such as blog rings, metros, and a social networking profile system.

MSN Spaces – Although it is relatively a newcomer in the blogging services space, MSN Spaces boasts of a huge user base, because of the ease at which existing MSN services users were able to start blogging. The integration with the rest of MSN’s services (hotmail, messenger) makes Spaces a very good blogging option for the existing users.

Do-it-yourself blogging platforms on the other hand, only provide the blogging engine. Although you have to find your own hosting service, DIY blogging platforms give you more control in configuring your blog. Below are some of the best DIY Blogging platforms.

Movable Type – Movable Type powers TypePad and it adds the usual advantages of a server-side blogging platform: flexibility, more advanced configuration, and total control over your blog.

Wordpress – Wordpress is an increasingly popular open-source blogging platform that is written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database.

Radio Userland – Radio Userland, one of the earliest content management systems used by the pioneering bloggers, is still a good blogging platform choice. It has solid RSS features that include a built-in aggregator. Configuration is done in a desktop web server then it is upstreamed or sync to the web server. This gives the blogger a cached copy of the whole blog.

Blog posting tools are third-party applications that are used to compose and publish blog posts. These tools usually support multiple blogging services and are ideal for those without a persistent Internet connection.

W. Bloggar and BlogJet – these are two of the best blog-posting tools in the market, and both are available for free. They support almost all of the blogging platforms. They do what most web-based posting apps does, including rich text editing, with the added feature of being able to save your drafts offline.

Performancing for Firefox – a Mozilla Firefox extension that allows you to immediately compose a blog post while using the Firefox browser. It is Ideal for active bloggers who use Firefox as their web browser. It automatically saves your unpublished posts.

Blog Reading

RSS/Atom aggregators and other RSS tools belong to this category.

My Yahoo – My Yahoo tried to bring the concept of RSS subscription to the Internet masses. Though it lacks the more advanced features, it serves well as a good aggregator.

Google Reader – Google’s web-based RSS aggregator that features an AJAX-driven user interface. It has a good support for tags or labels, and features a very nice reading interface. One of its best features is its labels-sharing feature that allows you to put aggregated content to your blog.

Bloglines – Bloglines is one of the most widely-used web-based RSS Reader. It uses the traditional two-frame reading interface, and subscriptions are grouped into folders. It has a good blog-suggest feature, that uses linking analysis to suggest which blogs might be of interest to you based on your existing subscription set. You can also share your subscriptions using Bloglines.

Blog Search

Tools used to search information and blogs, and to watch the blogosphere for topics or issues being actively discussed.

Technorati – Technorati is one of the best blog search engine, feature wise, and is indexing over 49.4 million web blogs. It serves as a one-stop shop for those who want to know the current happenings in the blogosphere, including features such as blog ranking based on linking, personal aggregator (for those who login) and many other nifty tools.

Sphere – one of the newcomers in blog search that came even after many other engines have folded down already. It promised to deliver more relevant blog search results, and it rightfully did so, as attested by its early beta testers. It features a “sphere it” feature that allows you automatically query http://sphere.com to see topics that might be related to what you’re currently reading.

Blogger’s Toolbox

A collection of other tools essential to the serious blogger

Mint / Measure Map /Google Analytics – these are three different tools used to analyze your blog statistics. Mint specializes in giving you a big-picture snapshot of your traffic, somewhat lacking in the providing specific details, something that Google Analytics is good at. Analytics can provide detailed information on what’s happening on your blog, which contents are popular, what keywords used in searches that bring you readers, and many others. It features a calendar to specify the time range of the analysis that you want to see. Measure Map, like Analytics is a fresh acquisition of Google, but still in early stages. It somewhat sits in the middle of Mint and Google Map in terms of what information is provided.

Akismet – Akismet is a highly-acclaimed anti-comment spam plugin for Wordpress blogs. It is free for personal use.

Feedburner – Feedburner is a tool that “burns” your RSS feeds in order to add tracking and analysis features. This way you can see statistics regarding your RSS subscribers.

The tools listed above are just a few of the many others that can help users; from those who are just starting to blog to those who want to become even better bloggers. It also includes some tools for searching and aggregating blogs, because a good blogger must learn to watch the blogosphere closely if it wants to be able to make more effective blog contents.

Satellite TV for PC programs are fast gaining acceptance worldwide and the usage has been steadily increasing over the past few years as it is cheap, efficient, and convenient. However, this type of software also has pros and cons like any other product on the market. In this article I would like to focus on the latter.

1. Appalling picture and audio quality – Most satellite TV to PC programs suffer from poor quality visual and sound. Grainy images and distorted high-pitch noises are some of the common issues plaguing this type of software. I know this for a fact as I’ve purchased a total of four different satellite TV on PC programs for the past year. Thankfully my bad streak came to a halt on the fourth and final purchase.

2. Worthless channel selection – The software providers claim to offer heaps of channels so you can experience the sheer variety of shows enjoyed by many cable/satellite TV owners. In reality, most if not all the channels being offered are next to worthless. Let’s face it; most people are into TV entertainment such as sports, films, soaps, cartoons, and up-to-date news. Therefore it’s imperative that you find a program that has top of the line channels from well known big guns like ESPN, Discovery, CBS, NBC, etc. Fact remains that most satellite TV on PC programs contain channels that are not worth watching.

3. Excess Baggage – Another major setback with this kind of software is that they are laden with spyware and adware which can cause serious damage to your computer. This is a problem prevalent mostly among free programs although there are quite a few paid ones carrying the excess baggage as well.

4. Slow loading time – The first two programs I bought suffered from extremely slow loading time. Truth is, many satellite TV on PC programs load at the speed of a two-legged turtle due to either poor programming or low-rate connection.

5. Constant crashes – Another big downer and this could be attributed to the fact that most satellite TV to PC software are built on an unstable programming platform which can lead to repeated crashes.

Although this kind of program has a number of discouraging aspects, please do not deprive yourself from giving it a try as I believe they are one of the best software that modern technology has to offer in recent years. The trick is to find the right satellite TV on computer program which bear none of the issues I highlighted above. Cheers!
